NATURAL PARK: “COLLADOS DEL ASÓN”

Loading…

The park is located in the municipality of Soba. The park is characterized by limestone massifs whose most relevant features are the ones derived from glacial action. Thus, some forms of cumulation and erosion provoked by the ice such as the spectacular circus of “Hondojón” are visible in the park. In addition to that, the diversity of flora and fauna, tranquility and the authenticity of the landscape make it a place worth visiting.

There are different routes throughout the park. In fact, one is able to do them independently or through the scheduled routes provided by Naturea.

  • Len de Valcaba
  • Cailagua: cascada del Asón

    El Mortero de Astrana

  • Aja viewpoint. It is located in “la Peña de Aja” . You have to reach the village and continue towards antennas ( reference point) in order to admire the villages in the valley of Soba. Awesome!
  • “Mirador de la Reina o de las cascadas del Gándara”. After crossing mountain Lavín , we reach a viewpoint suspended in the airflow. Only the brave ones get into it in order to admire the beauty of the environment. During heavy rainfalls, we can also enjoy the spectacular waterfalls.
  • “Mirador de La Sía”. At the foot of “La Sía” pass (1200 meters), we can enjoy the paths of Rulao y los Vellacos.
  • “Mirador de la fuente del Águila o del nacimiento del Asón”. From this perspective, we can contemplate the gorgeous waterfall which is more than 40 meters high and is famously known as “ Cola del Caballo”
  • “Mirador de Los Tornos”( 920 meters). This overlook is worth visiting since we leave the drylands ecosystems from Castilla behind to get into the green Cantabria
  • “Nacimiento del río Gándara”. This suggestion set beneath the foot of “el Becerral” limestone massifs invites you for a nice walking through the whole atmosphere. There you can find a mill that has been restored and transformed into a young trout breeding center.
  • “El Mortero de Astrana”. This place is a must if you are a speleology-lover. In the village of Astrana we have the beginning of a well preserved path that leads to a mortar under the same name. Mortars is the name we use to denominate the vertical cavities of wide-mouth where farmers used to get rid of dead animals corpses. This place is very good instance of that geological phenomena. Nevertheless, this cavity is not a mere crater of big dimension, it is, indeed, one of the principal entries to the underground system that currently holds the length record in Spain ;with 130 km respectively.
